Quit   Q
This is the menu from which you control file, printout and import/export operations. It also gives access to the TablEdit "language" options and contains the recently opened file list.

Four of the items it contains lead to further sub-menus.

Note: In Mac OSX, the "Preferences" command can be found under the "TablEdit Carbon" menu.

New

This function creates a new window containing an empty tablature grid, 24 measures in length. The new tablature is automatically assigned the attributes of the first instrument of the preceding window.

Open

This allows the opening of a previously created tablature (*.tef, .tab) or Chord Catalog (*.cat) file. Do not attempt to open a file with the *.tab extension which hasn't been created using an earlier version of TablEdit. In principle, TablEdit should detect the problem and display the message: "Cannot open: (file name)". If you wish to open an ASCII tablature file (these also use a *.TAB extender) you must use the "Import ASCII" feature.

TablEdit also allows files created by TabRite, Guitar Pro and PowerTab to be opened. TablEdit is also capable of reading files in the MusicXML format (http://www.musicxml.org/).

Save

This saves any changes you've made to the open tablature. If you attempt to exit the program or load another tablature without first having saved such changes, you will be asked if you wish to do so before the requested operation is carried out.

By adding the ".xml" extension to the file name, you can also save the tablature as a MusicXML file.

Protected Save
If you keep [Shift]+[Ctrl] held down when saving your *.tef file, a dialog box will appear offering you the option of protecting it against subsequent saving and/or writing and/or printing by others. If you select one or more of these options, make sure to make a note of the exact position of the cursor in the tablature (measure, string and horizontal placement) since this will have to be duplicated exactly when you, for example, wish to save changes made to a write protected tablature.

Save as ...

Allows you to save the current tablature under a new name. The new file can be saved in the location of your choice. The original file is not deleted but it will be replaced by the new file in the working window.

Print

Allows you to print out the tablature in the active window using the current printing options. The standard MacOS "Print" dialog allows you to select the pages to be printed out. Clicking on [OK] starts the printout process.

Print Preview...

This opens the "Print preview" panel.

Import

This item allows you to import several types of files into TablEdit for further editing.

Export

This item allows you to export tablature files created with TablEdit in several, different file formats for use in other programs or for distributing your work in MIDI format.

Preferences

This opens the Preferences dialog so that you can customize the settings used by the program to suit your own needs and tastes.

Languages

This selection leads to a sub-menu containing a list of the languages supported internally by TablEdit. There are currently four languages supported: English, French, German and Spanish.

Quit

When you quit TablEdit, you may encounter a dialog asking you if you wish to save any unsaved changes made to the various open files. In addition, all program options and parameters are automatically saved both in the "TablEdit Preferences" file located in your System folder.

It should be noted that most problems which may occur within TablEdit can be traced to corrupt configuration data. In this case, delete the "TablEdit Preferences" file.

Recent

This is a list of the last eight tablatures opened by TablEdit.
