To install TablEdit, you'll need to run the tabled32.exe distribution file. This distribution file is a self-extracting archive and when you run it, TablEdit will be installed in a directory (or folder) called by default Program Files/Tabledit.
Keep in mind that this is a demo package with certain critical limitations. Namely, you can open and play *.tef files and modify the MIDI options to alter the sound you hear when you play the music but do not try to "re-save" the file when you're done listening to it. The demo version only saves 16 measures of tab, so you will lose most of what you had already downloaded. If you want to print the file, go ahead and explore the page options available, tab only, tab + musical stave, notation only, with or without chord diagrams, etc.
The latest TablEdit font file (currently, tef265.ttf) must be installed in order to allow correct display and printout of musical symbols (clefs, notes, rests, codas, etc.) if you wish to make maximum use of the musical stave.
If the automatic font installation has been unsuccessful, you'll see rectangles displayed instead of the G clef and rests.
|How to install the TablEdit True Type font |
If you just installed the product for the first time, restart your computer. Some versions of Windows don't recognize a new font until you restart.
If you have restarted then perhaps the font for the notation had become corrupted. First, make sure that you don't have the product running. Look in your Fonts folder inside your Windows folder for a font called TEF265.TTF and delete it.
When you install the product a clean copy of the font will be installed. If this doesn't fix the problem, restart Windows (because, again, some versions of Windows won't see a new font until you restart.)
Instead of letting the product automatically reinstall the font file, do it manually through the "install new font" function. Open the control panel and the fonts folder (users have reported this is easier to do in the "classic view" rather than XP's new "category view"). Go to the "file" drop down menu, and select "install new font", then navigate to tef265.ttf in the Tabledit folder and install.
Re-installation and troubleshooting
In order to restore all of the default parameters, simply start TablEdit while keeping the [Shift] key held down.
allows you to get the critical information about your TablEdit version. Then you will be able to send a documented bug report to your correspondent if you have any difficulties with TablEdit.
Uninstalling TablEdit is even simpler. Just select "Uninstall TablEdit" from the Windows Start menu.
