TablEdit Users Say:

"I have recommended TablEdit to several people even to my present instructor who was impressed by how I could so easily edit and modify what we went over in class without having to erase and rewrite. TablEdit is a great tool."

TablEdit Tablature Editor

Frequently Asked Questions

Most questions about TablEdit are answered in our Online Help Pages. If you do not find your question answered here, take a look through the Online Help Pages for your answer.

Question: Tabledit reports duration errors in the a tablature that I am working on. I don't see any problem, what can be done about this?

Response: Certain note duration combinations are not quite technically correct or can sound bad when played back in MIDI when you are using certain features such as the triplet feel option.
Select the red note(s) and press [j], to see what TE proposes to you.

Question: Can TablEdit open/import tablatures that were created by other tablature editors?

Response: TablEdit can directly import files created with Tabestry, Bucket O' Tab, TabRite, and tablatures in ABC, ASCII and Wayne Cripps formats. The Mac version imports Guitar Pro and PowerTab files as well
Understandibly, not every author is willing to share their file formats (and some change their format radically with each new version) so TablEdit offers a couple alternatives. First, TablEdit supports the Rich Guitar MIDI File format. If the program you wish to convert from supports this format you can save/export your tablature in the RGMF format and TablEdit can import it directly. Second, many other tablature editors have the ability to export/save a song to a MIDI file with each string on it's own track or channel. Importing such a MIDI file with the "String Deduction of track #" or "String Deduction of channel #" option selected.

Question: During print preview and actual printing, the musical staff is loaded with garbage, such as crosses, forms symbols, hand symbols, etc. The tab part is correct.

Response: If you just installed TablEdit for the first time, restart your computer. Some versions of Windows don't recognize a new font until you restart.

If you have restarted then perhaps the font for the notation had become corrupted. First, make sure that you don't have TablEdit running. Look in your Fonts folder inside your Windows folder for a font called TEF265.TTF and delete it.

When you launch TablEdit a clean copy of the font will be installed. If this doesn't fix the problem, restart Windows (because, again, some versions of Windows won't see a new font until you restart.)

Instead of letting Tabledit automatically reinstall the font file, do it manually through the "install new font" function. Open the control panel and the fonts folder (users have reported this is easier to do in the "classic view" rather than XP's new "category view"). Go to the "file" drop down menu, and select "install new font", then navigate to tef265.ttf in the Tabledit folder and install.

Question: Rests do not print.

Response: TablEdit automatically deduces the rests from the position and note duration in the musical notation stave. These automatic rests are displayed but never printed out. Only manually inserted rests will be printed out. The feature {Edit}{Insert}{Automatic Rests} allows you to actually insert these rests in the tablature.

Question: While inputting a new tab moments ago, I suddenly received the message "unable to play Midi device" and the sound changed from acoustic guitar to some kind of electronic pitch. What should I do?

Response: Just change the Midi driver in Midi Setup to "Midi Mapper" and everything will be OK again

Question: I don't hear anything when I start the playback.

Response: It's maybe necessary to reconfigure Windows to be able to play MIDI music. This is what you have to do in Windows XP (the procedure may vary in other Windows versions but will be similar):

  • Click on the Start menu in your task bar and select Settings-Control Panel. Then double-click on the Sounds and Multimedia (the actual title of the applet may vary depending on your Windows version) applet icon.
  • This will open the Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog. Select the Audio tab.
  • Click on [Volume] in the Playback portion of the dialog in order to display the Playback Control panel.
  • If the Mute check box for "Synth SW" is checked, uncheck it.

Question: The tab and notation are so small that it is hard to read when I print them out. Does this software offers the function to change the size of the tab and notation?.

Response: You can increase the print scale with the corresponding option in the Print Options dialog box.

Question: How much does TablEdit cost?

Response: The price is in the order form order.txt (included in the zip file): $54.95 US or 50 Euros (for EC citizens).

Question: Can I print either tab or notation alone?

Response: Check the "Multitrack" check box in Options - General See the Options - Multitrack dialog box.

Question: Why register today ?

Response: The password we'll send you when you register will turn your demo into the complete version. It will still work with future updates and versions of TablEdit even if the price has been increased. So register today, TablEdit is a good investment.

Question: If I purchase TablEdit do I have to pay for upgrades to future versions of TablEdit?

Response: Absolutly not! Your TablEdit registration entitles you to FREE UPGRADES!

Question: I am planning on buying a new computer soon and it will have a newer version of Windows than the computer I'm currently using. When I upgrade will I have to buy a new copy of TablEdit for the new operating system?

Response: No, you can run TablEdit on any of the currenly available versions of Windows from Windows 3.1 and higher.
(At the time of this writing, this includes Windows 3.1, NT, 95, 98, 2000, Me, XP and Vista.)
